Massage for Teens
Teenagers go through an extraordinary number of changes, both physical and mental. Kids at this age are at an increased risk for aches, pains, and injury. Muscles can get strained during sports, gym or other activities. This risk is often increased with erratic sleep schedules, less than optimal nutrition and hyrdration. It has been shown that massage can help muscles recover faster from over use and reduce the chance of injury.
According to the Touch Institute of Florida, massage helps to lower stress hormones, which increases in immune function, encourages better sleep and heightens concentration. All of this can contribute to decreased incidents of depression, anxiety and stress. Massage allows teens to connect with their changing bodies in a positive way.
I believe in a relaxed, casual atmosphere for massage for this age group. They can choose music and essential oil to their taste. Parents are required to stay for the first treatment. After that, it is optional and up to the teen and her comfort level. Questions are encouraged!
